Well, that's hardly surprising, is it?
What surprised me is that that any psychological research had been done on internet trolls. Here's a link to a Mother Jones report published a few weeks ago.
UPDATE: And in related news, This Ruthless World explains why some people who make "stupid jokes" anonymously need to be identified and sharply brought to heel.
So if one, say, wrote a book about, oh, I don't know, how to troll for a living, that might well indicate that one is manipulative, narcissistic, psychopathic and sadistic, according to this study?
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's really unsurprising.
So, the research has deduced that the people sending hate emails to Rehtaeh Parsons's father taunting him about his daughters death, and rape threats to Rebecca Watson, are MEAN people? Who could have guessed?
ReplyDeleteTrolls are one of the reasons I hate internet anonymity.
ReplyDeleteTrolls necessitate anonymity, but anonymity also facilitates trolling.
